FREEDOM CHOIR SEEKS A FEW MORE SINGERS SHORT-TERM

A recent Symphony in the Park event, early in the day.

Freedom Choir has been invited to sing 4 songs during the Billings Community Band portion of the Symphony in the Park event on 26 June 2022. The Community Band plays at 5:00, and we’ll be singing sometime around 5:30.

We have enough singers already to make a good showing, but could particularly another bass or two, a tenor, and a strong alto. Here are the songs we’re singing, along with rehearsal aids. (We’ll supply sheet music for you, or you can print your own for 3 of the 4 numbers.)

DRESS
We’re having t-shirts made–probably about $17 each. We’re hoping all the singers will buy their own, but if someone needs help with that, we can probably find a donor.
We’re wearing khaki pants, too, with the shirts tucked in.

WHAT LEVEL OF SINGERS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re a community choir aiming to sing at a collegiate level. That said, we have some good singers who never had choral experience before joining us, and they’re doing just fine. We have singers from teens to adults. Meanwhile, we’d be happy to take singers with loads of choral experience, too. We’re looking for folks who can:

  • Match pitch
  • Match vowel sounds
  • Keep their vibrato in check (It’s a stylistic choice for us.)
  • Follow the director
  • Enjoy a well-disciplined rehearsal
  • Learn their own parts at home (with our rehearsal aids), or just sight-read them
  • Make it to most of the rehearsals

If this sounds like you, or if you’d like to talk about it, contact Jack Pelham right now!
